Overton Table is named after the town in West Yorkshire, England, a county that inspires Matthew Hilton, with its rugged landscape and history of producing modernist sculptors. Every plank in the solid wood tabletop features beautiful joinery which Hilton devised for the CNC machine, allowing for greater table lengths, no longer bound by the height of the tree. The hardwood top is complemented by the cleverly engineered metal leg frame, and the metal detailing running through the centre of the tabletop.

SPECIFICATION
Available in black walnut, white oak, or ash in a range of finishes. Legs and central tabletop detail in black anodised aluminium, or brass polished or brushed. See menus below for further material information.

NOTE: The metal legs are connected to a central support beam on the underside of the table made of the same timber as the tabletop.

Crafted at the solar-powered De La Espada factory in Portugal. Designed by a creative partner and rigorously engineered with the support of our in-house product development team and expert craftspeople. Durability, comfort and aesthetics combine for a product that lasts a lifetime.

Timber is sustainable solid wood from North America or Europe, offering long-term repairability of the surface. Natural colour and grain variations in every plank make each piece an individual. Traditional wood joinery bonded with wood glue ensures structural integrity. All finishes are non-toxic and applied by hand, sprayed or rubbed.

Matthew Hilton is an esteemed British designer whose eponymous product line expresses the technical knowledge and clarity of vision gained over four decades in the industry. Utilising robust materials that improve with the mark of age, Matthew Hilton creates timelessly beautiful, exceedingly functional products that are rigorously engineered. Every view of a design is valued equally, every aspect carefully considered, allowing for a sense of appreciation over time as new details are discovered.

“If you live with something, you might pick it up and look at the bottom. So the bottom of it is equally important. Every aspect is important because it is something that is going to stay in your life,” Matthew Hilton.

Solid wood is an expression of the life of a tree, grown for at least 30 years, and the weather patterns it experienced, the absorption of sunshine and minerals. The tree is imbued with meaning, and this meaning is transferred to the piece of furniture it becomes.

Our planks are cut in a way that honours the growth rings and grain, making them clearly visible.

AMERICAN BLACK WALNUT

Our American black walnut is from the midwestern United States. This is a prized hardwood with luxuriously figurative grain patterns and great strength. The walnut tree is relatively small, and the dark heartwood is surrounded by sap wood that is blond in colour.

Our American black walnut timber is available in a choice of oil finishes.

Danish oiled walnut

Black oiled walnut

White oiled walnut

Our Danish oil, white oil, and black oil finishes provide a renewable surface for enduring beauty. Damage can be repaired with relative ease, as the timber can be reapplied with wax or oil at any moment.

AMERICAN WHITE OAK

Our American white oak is from the eastern coast of the United States. Oak has long been used in furniture due to its great density, outstanding durability and simple, understated beauty. Its durability is compounded by the fact that it contains tannin acid, which naturally prevents rotting.

Our American white oak timber is available in a choice of oil finishes, or an oxidised finish.

EUROPEAN ASH

Our European Ash is from Portugal, Spain and France. European Ash is a hardwood that has long been prized by cabinetmakers due to its versatility and simple beauty. This dense timber has a coarse yet even texture, compressive strength, and an appealing straight grain. It varies in colour from a cream to pale tan colour and accepts stains and coatings more readily than other timbers.

Our European ash timber is available in a choice of oil, painted, or stained finishes.

Aluminium is a relatively lightweight metal that lends itself well to use in furniture with its excellent corrosion resistance and the ease with which it can be cast and machined.

Our anodised aluminium has an attractive black finish achieved through an electrochemical process. Anodising is a highly controlled oxidation, resulting in a finish that is durable and corrosion-resistant. The aluminium is sand-blasted before being anodised, to create a subtle texture.

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, with an attractive gold-like colour. It has been used for centuries for decorative items and musical instruments. We coat our brass with Renaissance Wax which provides a barrier to slow ageing and oxidisation, while maintaining a natural appearance.

Our polished brass is hand polished before the application of wax.

Our brushed brass is brushed to create an appealing surface texture before the application of wax.
